Non-Aquind

NON-AQUIND is a publication designed for and with Goldsmiths MA Design Expanded Practice. The book combines works from MA students in collaboration with the organisation STOP AQUIND.

The proposed AQUIND interconnector is a 2,000MW subsea and underground bi-directional electric power transmission link between Portsmouth, on the south coast of England, and Normandy, in France. The issues and activities related to the planning application and the community’s response to it, are the focus of NON-AQUIND, a design brief set by designer and researcher Rebecca Glyn-Blanco and Tobie Kerridge.

The publication uses different coloured paper to distinguish between students’ works and the content produced by STOP AQUIND. The cover graphics are derived from protest signs and student projects, reflecting the activist spirit of collaboration.

Eastney & Milton Allotments in Portsmouth was central to STOP AQUIND’s cause. A sticker featuring the publication’s title was designed, drawing inspiration from the aesthetics of fruit stickers to create a visual connection to the allotment.
